Overview

Lung cancer and cancer screening experts will provide a one-day symposium on lung cancer screening. The full event will take place on Tuesday, 11/12 from 8:30am-4:00pm (registration 8:00-8:30am) at the Luskin Conference Center on UCLA's campus with live in-person/remote and enduring material options. The target audience is primary care providers/teams, radiologists, and health system managers/administrators who want to learn about lung cancer screening and screening programs. This event considers the diversity of health systems with broad representation from panel members. Lunch is provided for in-person attendants.

The morning will include an introduction to the state of lung cancer screening in California, big-picture considerations for lung cancer screening programs (including key program elements and necessary human resources/leadership), and the creation of coordinated multidisciplinary pathways from screening to diagnosis to treatment.

The featured keynote speakers will be from 11:45am-1:30pm. The first half will focus on pragmatic lung cancer screening for primary care providers and teams, including risk factors, screening eligibility requirements, documentation, insurance coverage, discussing risks and benefits, and when to refer patients to specialist care (with Dr. Michael Ong). The first hour will also include a component of efficient and effective tobacco assessment and counseling. The second half will be tailored to radiologists and will focus on radiology's integral role in lung cancer screening (with Dr. Ashley Prosper) with topics including using LungRADS to read low-dose CTs, available templates and technology, like AI.

The afternoon will cover practical and logistical details on assessing the screen-eligible population, estimating the budgetary impact on a lung cancer screening program, sample workflows, maximizing your EHR and data capture for lung cancer screening. The event will conclude with policy gaps, the broader cancer context and looking to the future with new developments in lung cancer.
