Overview
The Case-Based Learning Collaborative on Stimulants uses a case-based learning approach to share experiences, educate, and disseminate the latest evidence-based data on the use of medications and other therapies for treating stimulant use disorders. The series provides a reliable forum for providers to network and discuss stimulant use disorders and their treatment to help guide treatment decisions and to destigmatize treatment. Areas of Interest: The sessions in this series are interactive. Faculty speakers present case scenarios to attendees and allow for dialogue and discussion on these cases to support learning. Some of the topics that have been covered include - Medications With Evidence for Treatment of Stimulant Use Disorders and Contingency Management For Treatment Stimulant Use. Upcoming topics for 2024 include Overdose Stimulants and Other Drugs, Deaths and Cardiovascular Sequela Of Stimulant Use, Managing Acute Psychotic Symptoms In Stimulant Use Disorder, Women Who Use Stimulants, Treatment Of Stimulant Use Disorders In Emergency Department, Youth/Adolescents And Stimulant Use Disorders, Opioid Polypharmacy With Stimulants, Criminal Justice Involvement And Stimulant Use, And Pregnancy And Perinatal Care For Women Who Use Stimulants. These series is hosted by UCLA Center for Behavioral and Addiction Medicine (CBAM) in the Department of Family Medicine, in partnership with the LA County Substance Abuse Prevention and Control and the UT Southwestern Clinical Trials Network Big South/West Node.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Interpret and apply information to current practice.
  2. Identify and describe medication and therapies for treating stimulant use disorders.
  3. Effectively apply evidence-based therapies in primary care and other settings to improve patient outcomes.
  4. Effective apply recommendations about treatment of comorbid conditions and polysubstance use when treating stimulant use disorders in practice.
  5. Effectively address stigma and apply cultural competency when delivering stimulant use disorder treatment and care.
  6. Describe the practical approaches to harm reduction for stimulant use using medical management and behavioral therapies (e.g. contingency management).
