Overview

GLP-1 and dual-incretin therapies now produce weight loss that is close to what was possible only with surgery. Clinicians face new questions; we have moved on from do they work to how do we support our patients long term with them? How much of the weight lost is lean mass? Which patients develop nutrient deficiencies, disordered eating, or hair and facial changes on treatment? When are non-incretin agents or combination regimens appropriate? What happens when therapy is interrupted for surgery, pregnancy, or supply problems? And how do we reach patients with rare genetic obesity, or those who face economic and structural barriers?

This one-day, accredited program addresses those questions through keynote, lecture, fireside-chat, and integrated Q&A formats. Faculty will present current evidence on pathophysiology, pharmacotherapy, nutrition, exercise, sleep, procedural options, and payer navigation.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Evaluate the evidence on lean mass loss during incretin therapy and apply strategies to monitor and preserve muscle and physical function.
  2. Compare GLP-1, dual-, and multi-agonist therapies with non-incretin agents, and select, sequence, or combine medications based on patient characteristics.
  3. Design nutrition and exercise plans that support high-quality weight loss and reduce the risk of nutrient deficiencies.
  4. Recognize and manage obstructive sleep apnea and circadian factors in patients receiving weight-management therapy.
  5. Identify patients who warrant evaluation for monogenic or syndromic obesity or who carry eating-disorder risk, and apply safety frameworks when prescribing.
  6. Plan for incretin interruptions around surgery, pregnancy, and supply disruptions, and manage hair loss and facial volume loss during rapid weight loss.
  7. Determine when to refer for endobariatric procedures or bariatric surgery, and how to combine surgery with post-operative pharmacotherapy.
  8. Apply strategies to address cost, food access, weight bias, and payer requirements (formularies, prior authorization) so more patients can start and stay on treatment.
