Overview

Live In-Person and Virtual Hybrid Course

The course focuses on patients with “failing” Fontan physiology and the available tools and therapies for the treatment of this challenging subset of patients, including updates on medical therapies, catheter-based and surgical techniques for palliation and support. The ultimate therapeutic options of orthotopic heart and multi-organ transplantation are covered in detail as the need grows in this aging Fontan population. The target audience includes adult and pediatric congenital cardiologists, congenital and transplant cardiac surgeons, heart failure/transplant specialists, hepatologists, liver transplant surgeons, cardiac intensivists, cardiology and cardiac surgery trainees, cardiac nurses, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

Cancellations must be received via email to [email protected] by Friday, February 2, 2024 and will be subject to a $25 processing fee. No refunds will be granted after that date. If, for any reason, the course must be cancelled, discontinued, or rescheduled a full refund will be provided.

Course Recording
All registrants (live or virtual) will be provided the opportunity to review recorded sessions up to 3 weeks following the conference.
The recorded sessions are not approved for Continuing Education (CE) credit.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:


  1. Define the “failing” Fontan patient
  2. Utilize evidence-based medical therapies for treatment and surveillance of the Fontan survivor
  3. Diagnose Fontan associated liver disease
  4. Refer appropriate Fontan patients for catheter-based mechanical and electrical interventions
  5. Identify the role and the limitations of Fontan conversion surgery
  6. Identify Fontan patients that may benefit from transplantation or mechanical support
  7. Describe the short- and intermediate-term outcomes of single and multi-organ transplantation in Fontan patients

Accreditation
The David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Direction and Parking

From the 405 freeway, exit Wilshire Blvd., East toward Westwood. Turn left on Westwood Blvd., travel past Charles E. Young Dr. South and turn left on Structure 8 driveway. Proceed up the ramp to Level 4 and park in any of the “Pay-by-Space” parking spots. You will need to purchase parking at a nearby parking kiosk. All day parking is $15.00.

To access the UCLA Luskin Conference Center via the pedestrian bridge from Parking Structure 8, take the north central stairs or elevator facing the conference center down one level (from Level 4 to Level 3) and cross over Strathmore Place. Make your way around the northside of the conference center. The front entrance is in front of the Gateway Plaza turnaround.
