Overview
The Division of Geriatrics grand rounds aims to update clinicians, researchers, and students on clinical guidelines, practice management, and recent research related to older adults. Given the geriatric population's exclusion from trials and the lack of consensus guidelines, physicians face challenges in caring for them. With an aging population and a shortage of geriatricians, these rounds address chronic condition management, care transitions, and geriatric syndromes with expert discussions. Attendees can apply this knowledge for better patient care, emphasizing quality improvement in transitions, re-admissions, medication adverse events, and patient satisfaction. The sessions will be live-streamed and archived on the Department of Medicine Website for ongoing reference.

Target Audience
Specialties - Internal Medicine
Professions - Advanced Practice Nurse, Fellow/Resident, Medical Student, Physician

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Maintain up to date knowledge on the diagnosis and management of medical conditions in older adults
  2. Apply new concepts in the diagnosis and management of diseases in older adults into clinical practice
  3. Describe how aging of the population impacts health and health care systems
  4. Improve transitions in care for a vulnerable population across the continuum of healthcare
  5. Assess new research and guidelines in the geriatric field
  6. Describe how a subject’s culture/ethnicity should be considered in the management of geriatric syndromes to ensure culturally sensitive preferences and to mitigate unconscious biases of the healthcare provider.
