Overview

This skills-based workshop equips clinicians with evidence-based presentations and tools which identify and demonstrate nature-based interventions for disease prevention and therapy. At an urban organic regenerative farm, this immersive course emphasizes hands-on application of therapeutic horticulture, green exercise, forest bathing and clinical nutrition. Learn practical strategies grounded in science for managing inflammation, modulating the microbiome, and addressing chronic diseases. This highly experiential course features no PowerPoint presentations and focuses on direct engagement with nature and the environment to enhance patient outcomes.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Discuss the latest research on nature-based medicine and its impact on mental and cardiovascular health.
  2. Explain the proposed physiological and psychological mechanisms by which nature exposure benefits health.
  3. Apply practices of nature-based medicine activities such as forest bathing, horticultural therapy, home gardening, activity in green spaces and activity in blue spaces in appropriate clinical settings.
  4. Recognize best practices for obtaining and growing food that is grown organically; for optimal nutrient density of fruits and vegetables; and for reducing personal exposure to environmental pollutants.
  5. Understand the role of indoor mechanisms, including houseplants, filtration systems, and light exposure in improving overall well-being.

Accreditation

The David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
